Lookin’ out my back door

Hello, welcome to my back porch, also known as “The Captain’s Porch”. Yesterday while Josephine napped after our family zoo trip (for over two hours!) I decided to work on cleaning this area up. Over the next couple of months I hope to make this into a nice little area. Our house is awesome, and our back yard is particularly badass, however, there is no direct route or clear path from the inside/living room to the back. It’s a little funny. Enter the Captain’s porch. There is a door leading from our dining room/music area to the side yard. It is our hope to make this the passage to the outdoors. Right now nobody uses the side door or the Captain’s Porch. Probably because it’s overgrown with weeds and grass. There is also a broken down hot tub out there, but that’ll stay for a while I’m sure.

I went to town weeding and clipping back a bush that I’m getting ready to dig up. Fun Emily Fact: I HATE bushes. They are awkward and need to be manicured and are only good for a rousing round of hedgecore (Ahhhhhh, to be 19 again). And so I’m tearing it out.
I worked my behind off cleaning this area. And I am super duper sore now. But this was COMPLETELY worth it!

Please excuse the goats. They love to be everywhere I am when they are out. I had a little gang going with the three goats and Buddy all hanging around while I worked. Apparently, I am quite popular with the farm animals.
But I digress, doesn’t the porch area look good! It’s a start at least. Eventually we’ll have an herb garden out there and some chairs to make it a proper Captain’s Porch 🙂
The sun is shining, I’m getting crap done and feeling good! Which is nice because I’ve been having a rough go with balancing life, work, relationship and two year old for the last week. Don’t feel too bad for me, most of it boils down to bad time management and inability to say no and stay home on my part. Live and learn. But, things are looking up!

Oh, and because my family is the cutest and I know you all yearn to see pictures from our day at the zoo, here you go. You’re welcome.

Lazy Picture Post 2

I have no motivation to write. So look at some pictures. We’ve been really busy and I’m in desperate need of sitting still and doing nothing. After we take a family trip to the zoo today, that is 🙂

I love my neighborhood

20120301-163138.jpg
This picture was taken on my way home from work just down the road from my house. It doesn’t do it justice. It was beautiful. Right after I took this picture, a flock of 15 or so pheasants flew over my car from the orchard next door to my house. Man, I love my neighborhood!

Dinner Conversation

Tonight when we sat down to dinner, Josephine looked at me and said, “So Mama, how’s your day at work?”. I am a proud mama! She is so kind and thoughtful tonight. Yesterday, however, when we were talking about some cousins she recently visited she told me she wanted to “kick ’em and sock ’em and poop on ’ems faces.” At least dinner time isn’t boring.
On a completely different note, have you ever tried goat wrangling? It’s an excellent form of exercise. I highly recommend it. I think I’m going to start letting the goats out into the yard every evening and then chasing them around as an extra way to get moving. Do you think people would pay to take my goat wrangling class? It could be the new Zumba. I’m going to be rich!

Sunday Sunday Sunday

In an unexpected turn of events (that included having some out of town family over for lunch Saturday, spending Friday night cleaning, and not being home Saturday night) my house is super clean! What a nice way to start the week! Happy Sunday everyone!

PS… I want new kitchen chairs.

I’ll spend my days at the office, sing a little bit of these working mom blues

Last night when I went to Grammy Jane’s house after work, Josephine took one look at me and screamed, “NO! DON’T TAKE ME!!!” When it was time to leave, she cried and said, “I want stay here.” When we got home and were brushing our teeth she told me, “I no want be here. I want go to Grammy’s”. When we were putting on pajamas she told me, “Grammy is happy.” When I asked her what mama was (I know, I shouldn’t have asked) she said, “Mama is mean.”
After story time, as we were getting ready to go to bed, she said in her sweet voice, “Mama, you be here in morning? You no go to work eeever again.” (FYI: eeever rhymes with fever in Josephine talk). Then she looked at me and said, “Now you say, ‘Have to go work’.”
I didn’t realize how often we have the Mama’s going to work tomorrow conversation. So much so that she can recite both our parts to me. Luckily, this time I got to end it with, “I’ll be here tomorrow because it’s the weekend. I’ll see you when you wake up. I love you.”
Dang. Now, who wants to give me a shit ton on money so I can stay home and never have to have that conversation again? Happy weekend everyone…

Walking

I am on a treadmill at the gym as I type walking quickly and trying to type on my phone. I am also watching the cake decorating show on the Food Network, which is funny to me.
Wednesday night I hurt my shoulder inexplicably and yesterday when I tried to swim I couldn’t use it without it hurting. So here I am. First time on the gym floor. I’m probably breaking some rule by using my phone, but oh well. Signing off….
**Update**
I almost fell off the treadmill right after I posted this… No more typing while treading for me! Geeze!

Back To It

Well, back to the daily grind. 6:11 am, warming my car up, heading to the gym.
At least the sunrise is pretty.

Can’t say the same for myself at this time of day.

Home again, home again

Well, we made it home. Josephine was so ready to be home that she pleaded with me not to stop on the four and a half hour drive home. When I told her that Mama needs to pee, she said, “No! You wait stop to pee at home!!”. Um, ok, sure.

We returned home just in time for Taylor and me to celebrate our 45th anniversary (or ninth, whatevs). After some quality family time we took Josephine to spend a couple of hours at her Grammy’s house so we could go to dinner and stare lovingly into each others eyes and talk about when we first fell in love so many years ago. (Actually, we had some drinks and laughed about how dorky we both are, same difference right?).

In (un)related dork news, I bought Taylor the Lord of the Rings Trilogy extended edition nerd pack for our anniversary. He was losing nerd street cred by not owning it, and for goodness sake, his nerd reputation was on the line. The big gift, however, is that I’m actually going to watch all three movies with him. I have been refusing to do this for a while, since the first movie frightened me so badly that I had to leave the theater to calm down, and my neck hurt for three days from the anxiety. But here it is, 9 years later and I’m finally giving in. Now that’s love, folks. In all it’s compromising glory.
So, happy anniversary Taylor. I love you and our life we’ve made. Here’s to another 67 years!

Sharing is caring

Yesterday my sweet little Josephine was rocking on a rocking horse watching her cousin Emmett play with some necklaces when she exclaimed, “I going to hit baby Emmett. Those are MY necklaces!”. Um, really?
This morning she woke up, happy as a clam, and exclaimed, “I share my Winnie (one of her top three stuffed animals) with baby Emmett!”.
She proceeded to share not only Winnie, but also her new garage sale score tree house with her cousin. Oh, the ups and downs of a two year old!
